Burnout(번아웃)

by mirerooo 2019. 12. 24.

Millenials love to complain about other millenials giving them a bad name. But as I fumed about this 27-year-old's post office anxiety, I was deep in a cycle of a tendency, developed over the last five years, that I I've come to call "errand paralysis." I'd put something on my weekly to-do-list, and it'd roll over, one week to the next, haunting me for months.

How Millennials Became The Burnout Generation

I couldn’t figure out why small, straightforward tasks on my to-do list felt so impossible. The answer is both more complex and far simpler than I expected.

The burnout she(Anne Helen Petersen) she described was debated extensively. But the symptom she described - a mental block that makes tedious tasks feel impossible to do - seems to be a universal affliction. Many of us copped to the fact that we too put off seemingly manageable tasks until they coalesce into one giant, stressful ball of life admin that paralyzes us.

해결책은?

  1. Get it out of your head. - 머리로 생각하지 말고 실제로 옮겨적어라 (Todoist와 같은 앱 활용)
  2. Take time off. - 하루에 하나라도 해결할 것("just one!")
  3. Make your to-do list granular. - 매주 반복되는 활동은 카테고리와 해서 특정 요일에는 특정 건을 처리할 것
  4. If it's under four minutes, blitz it. - 4분 이하 소요되는 활동이라면, 떠오른 즉시 바로 처리하라
  5. Replace dread with something else.

Now that we’ve admitted we have “errand paralysis,” how do we cure it?

Have we gotten better at getting things done?
