  • squeak through: 어떤 일을 간신히 해내다
    mangle: 짓이기다, 심하게 훼손하다

    He's a libertarian drug fiend, marinating in a mobile home.

  • there is a merit to ...:  ~에 장점이 있다
    There was some merit to the notion of trickle-down economics, and I feel there is much merit to the idea of trickle-down diplomacy.

    ludicrous: 터무니없는

  • unscrupulous: 부도덕한, 무원칙한(unprincipled)
    An unscupulous businessman manipulated them into selling their land practically for nothing.
  • bask in: 관심/칭찬을 누리다 
    He is basking in his teacher's praise.
    He had always basked in his parents' attention.
    Claire and Frank take a moment in the Oval to bask in their victory, although Frank isn't doing much basking.
